Quotes to make you think

Quotes to make you thinkEP was asked to be part of the expert panel for a new website…

A few years ago Head Coach Kim Ingleby trained as a NLP Practioner with a company called Fitness Unlimited, owned by Pam Rigden. This training has become a major part of her work, and it has allowed her to develop a greater understanding and success with her clients. Since then, Kim has presented
with Pam for Sports Coach UK, the Australian Fitness Industry Convention
and many other UK events, forming a successful and dynamic partnership.

This has led to Pam asking Kim to be part of an expert panel for a new wellbeing website – Eat, Move & Be Happy – she is launching in November 2007. Kim feels privaleged to be part of this exciting team, including Lorna Lee Malcolm, who has advised Kim for many years and is an ambassador for Reebok and a highly respected trainer within the industry.

As part of the profiles we have been asked to put together some qoutes that have inspired and motivated us and our reasons behine choosing them, I thought I would share these with you to help inspire you too – enjoy!

The quotes…

“Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic” Gothe

I love this quote, as it really encourages you to take action and follow your dreams. I have seen this quote in many places and was given it on a card from my father. It made me realise that we often do not appreciate the depth of a person, even when they are close to us. Therefore, I would encourage everyone to be bold, magical and follow their dreams.

“It is not the strongest of species that survives, nor the most intelligent but the most responsive to change” Charles Darwin (1809 – 1882)

I read this quote in a book – I think it is perfect and often use it when working with people who are lacking in confidence or struggling with change. Change is the one of the only things that we can guarantee in our lives, so I feel that this summaries the fact that we should have the courage embrace change, and life will flow much more easily.

“To dream anything that you want to dream, that is the beauty of the human mind.
To do anything that you want to do, that is the strength of the human will.
To trust yourself, to test your limits, that is the courage to succeed.”

I am not sure who is quote is by, as I read it in a magazine on a plane and wrote it in the little book of my thoughts and ideas that I carry with me. It is a quote that works really well for me and I think it reflects the passion and commitment I have towards my work and helping you, my clients feel fantastic.

“And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Anais Nin

I was researching topics on stress management for a corporate talk I was presenting earlier this year when I came across this quote. I have found it had a very profound effect on individuals who are struggling to move forwards during difficult personal times. Sometimes people fear making a decision so much that it causes then to tighten and lose their shining personality – however, if they could take one more step forwards they would fly and things would suddenly become so much easier. It is through my work I hope to help people have the courage to take that step forwards and fly.

“Success is getting and achieving what you want.
Happiness is wanting and being content with what you get.” – Bernard Meltzer

I recently found this quote on a friend’s website who runs amazing yoga and surf retreats in Morocco & Australia. What more can I say – it is the perfect quote! I work with so many individuals who seemingly appear to have everything, the right house, job etc but come to see me feeling empty. I find this really challenging and sad that people have everything and yet as still not content with themselves. This quote highlights the fact the you have to be content in your own body, from the inside out and then success & happiness will follow. I really, really hope that by working with people I can help them feel content and happy in themselves, and then help them to achieve the goals they are really passionate about.

“Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt the person doing it” Chinese Proverb

This quote was given on a card by someone who is special to me and it is on my office wall – I think it has a powerful meaning. There are often many people in your life who will tell you that it cannot be done, should not be done or isn’t good enough. I think that’s okay as I am fortunate enough to have the skills, knowledge and training to not let these comments interrupt my progress. And I believe that if you are passionate about your goals, content in yourself and determined to succeed, anything is possible – everything you try may not work – but in trying you grow and progress to another place which allows you to feel more content and support more people.

“People who do not find time for relaxation and recreationAre obliged sooner or later to find time for illness” John Wanamaker

I do a lot of work with people who are addicted to many things; work, exercise, food, doing things etc and would find the thought of stopping a ridiculous and very scary thought. However, it is so important to find the time to just be – to be with yourself in your own space, to do things that make you laugh like a child and read books that make you think and listen to music that makes you want to dance. This time is so important in this busy life – and by creating a small amount of time we allow ourselves the space to reflect and grow in a way we would like to. So, when we become old we are not saying, “if only” – we are feeling content, wise and healthy.

“Do not let the possibility of laughter pass you by.
Become light hearted; let go of too serious a vein.
Laughter costs nothing, and can make others
As well as you feel relaxed, feel companionable, feel good.” John Lane

This final quote is simple and pure, one I often use when I work with individuals and doctor referrals, I like people to think , when was the last time you felt fantastic, what two great things happened to you today? All too often people get stuck in the negative – thinking of all the terrible & annoying things that have happened to us – yet this only makes us feel worse. So how about writing down the good things that happen each day, even if they are tiny it will begin to make you feel good and appreciate your life. And then make sure you do things that make you laugh – laughter is the best medicine in the world and if you are not having fun, you have to ask yourself what are you doing?
