I met the lovely people at Zaggora at the Vitality Show in London earlier this year and promised to test and review the Zaggora kit. So a few weeks ago a package arrived with black hot pants and a cerise hot top, I was intrigued to test these out. Writing for magazines like Bodyfit & Health & Fitness, I have seen these featured regularly, and the celebrities such as Fearne Cotton & Tess Daly have given them top marks according to some of the press (but we can’t guarantee this) so thought we better test a pair out!
Now as those who read the Energised Blog regularly know, we like the science behind things and they have to enhance positive, natural training for us to give them a five star!
So the two week test begins. They could not have arrived at a better time as I was training for the European Triathlon Championships, so being made to sweat a bit more, and increase my body temperature could have only been a good thing for racing in Turkey!
How do they work?
I’ve given you the information from Zaggora themselves at the bottom of the blog post as it’s good stuff if you like facts (which I do!). I felt it was pretty impressive information, but if you don’t feel like reading all the facts in summary they increase energy spent during and after exercise, varying depending on the individual. This, when you are short of time is invaluable if it is safe as well as effective.
I wore them every day as recommended for 30-60mins, whilst training clients, and I did a few session’s (speed, cycling & strength) myself in them. They definitely make you sweat more, but somehow manage to regulate your body temperature.
After the two weeks I tested my waist and thigh measurements, both were .5″ less than 2 weeks before. This could have been due to the adaption to training for a A race and also, contributed by the Zaggora Kit. I must stress that I am definitely about healthy eating, balanced exercise and a confident mind as well as adding in kit which will enhance the results of exercise. So get these if you tick the healthy points above, you want some bright, well designed training kit, and lastly want to gain the edge in your results.
So what did I really like about the kit:
– It looks good, stylish and has a range of colours to appeal to everyone
– They definitely make you work harder (but that depends on your intensity & training principles)
– For individuals the research seems to back up the results with most people
– I think it could be useful piece of kit for complimentary altitude & high performance training, as well as weight loss and well being, therefore it is versatile and effective
– The Zaggora Team are super efficient, friendly and knowledgeable
What I didn’t like so much:
– It has a slight wet suit smell
– You have to hand wash in cold water (and you must do this each time as you do sweat in them!), which is fine, but they can take a while to dry
If you eat healthy food and you are exercising regularly, mixing up what you are doing, the Zaggora Kit is definitely a good investment. It looks good, its on trend & it seems to help with results. I would love to know how you get on with them, tweet me @kimingleby & Zaggora and let us know!

What Zaggora Say….
How It Works
Our research shows that the use of a Zaggora top and bottom (“Zaggora Hotwear”) during exercise, at an appropriate level of intensity and while remaining well hydrated, may help to increase both body temperature generation and the rate of calorie burn. During 2011 and 2012, Zaggora commissioned research on Hotwear from ETScience, based at the University of Southern California, USA (“ETS Study”), and from the Chelsea School of Sport, University of Brighton in the UK (“UB Study”). Altogether, more than 120 women took part in the studies.
Both studies confirm the finding that exercising in Zaggora Hotwear can increase calorie burn.*
The UB Study tested 13 subjects in Zaggora HotPants and 13 in standard exercise clothing and found that exercising in HotPants can increase energy expenditure during exercise by an average of 11%.
The ETS Study first tested 30 subjects in Zaggora Hotwear and 30 subjects in standard exercise clothing and found that exercising in Zaggora Hotwear can lead to a statistically significant increase in energy expenditure as compared to standard exercise clothing: 6% on average and up to 18% depending on fitness level.
When testing a group of 10 subjects exercising at a constant speed, data revealed that subjects in Zaggora Hotwear burned 9.7% more calories than subjects in standard exercise clothing during 30 minutes of exercise.
The UB Study found that if Zaggora HotPants are worn in resting recovery after 30 minutes of exercise, they can lead to a 12.5% increase in energy expenditure in the 30-60 minutes after exercise.
Heart rate and exercise intensity
The ETS Study found that subjects exercising in Zaggora Hotwear had to exercise at a 3% lower speed and 23% lesser incline to achieve the same heart rate range as subjects exercising in standard exercise clothing.
Heat and safety
Both the UB Study and the ETS Study found that while an increase in heat generated by the body did occur while wearing Zaggora Hotwear, exercising in it is safe since core body temperature does not exceed acceptable exercise induced elevations.
