The article uses an Army field manual from 1946 that includes the physical training program used by GIs during WWII.

Correcting posture is a mix of getting muscles back to the shape they should be in (too long/stretched or too short/contracted), followed by strengthening exercises to keep those muscles in shape and lastly habit, if you slouch because of habit become aware of it so you can change it.
