#ThursdayTherapy: Improving our skills & knowledge

ST

Here at Energised Performance we are committed to improving our skills and knowledge to help our clients reach their goals and believe in themselves.

EP Sports Therapist Becky Nattress recently went on an Advanced First Aid course as part of her work with Rugby Athletes but this also helps our clients in effectively managing their injuries and rehabilitation and is great to have for the EP Sports Massage Team Event work.

“As a training Sports Therapist at Worcester we were taught adequate first aid. Once I graduated and began working in rugby I realised that you only start learning once you are actually in the field.

Pitch side for rugby on a Saturday means I can deal with anything from a graze to a fractured, dislocated ankle. Staying calm when a joint is pointing the wrong way is most definitely a difficult task! But pitch side for me is one of the most enjoyable parts of the job, as it tests me to deal with a real life situation and how well I can manage my skills and apply them in real time when the outcome isn’t a simulation, its somebodys actual body and they are relying on me to take care of them. It isn’t something to be taken lightly and it’s a great opportunity to prove yourself as a therapist to yourself and those around you. But the feeling when I successfully manage a player is next to none.

I attended the RFU Immediate Care in Sport course this week and it is an excellent course to attend for all practising therapists working in sport. The course is run brilliantly and equips you to deal with anything sport can throw at you, ensuring you can offer a range of immediate care from spinal injuries to fractures and all the rest a rugby match could throw at you!”
