Kim speaks with Macmillan Cancer Support

Kim has been a passionate fundraiser since she was a child but was inspired to support Macmillan after losing and supporting some special people in her life affected by cancer.

“I know doing a walk can’t change things for those lost loved ones and friends, but I really wish it could. I carry them in my thoughts with love, compassion and care at every step. The journey of grief and loss is different for us all, yet intertwined with it all is love, kindness and hope; somehow I hope every step and donation can make a tiny difference.”

“A close friend passed away recently, leaving behind a gorgeous son and I also two inspiring clients whom I had worked with for over fifteen years. Three of my lifelong amazing friends have lost loved ones to cancer over the last couple of years. A reminder, life can change in an instant, and all we have is now.

“I’ve raised money for charity all my life, and last year I decided to take on a triple fundraiser for Macmillan with the Yorkshire Three Peaks, Great North Run and the Northumberland Mighty Hike for my friends. I found the hike way harder than expected, but the route was simply the best! The weather was amazing, the organisation fantastic, and the people were humbling, inspiring, friendly and supportive. My favourite memory from the hike was the wild beaches, the route was simply beautiful!

“I did the hike by myself, but you can spend time quietly or join the walk with others. It really doesn’t matter because everyone is so made to feel welcome. I can’t believe I did it, and it’s now led to a bigger challenge this year, where I hope I can raise even more!

“This year, I’ve signed up for an ultra marathon in Newcastle, The Norfolk Mighty Hike Marathon and a big challenge in June to walk 70 miles in 24 hours! I’m nervous because I have an ongoing health challenge (a peripheral vascular leak), but I’m determined to give it a go! This will complete nine months of fundraising for Macmillan in memory of some incredibly special people.
