How to Run FASTER – Yes U Can!

I believe that anyone can run, if you want to! And I also believe that anyone can run Faster if they train properly and effectively.  So it was brilliant to go a training session with the well renowned Margot Wells, to update my knowledge on how to run faster.  Or as Margot would say, “Well Fast!”.

Margot has worked with international athletes, premier rugby players and JLS – so whatever your background she knows how to make you Faster!

Simply put to run Faster, you just need to run shorter distances faster – most people go at one pace and do not realise they could run faster.  To learn to do this the drills below, combined with speed sessions will help.  What do you need to do then… It really is simple but you have to do it regularly…..

Drills: to be performed over a 30-60m strip – no longer:

Arms – work the arms at a 90 degree angle focusing on the backward movement, and prevent the arms crossing over the midline of the body

– Hands – hold them in a relaxed, closed position with thumbs on the forefinger

– Heel flicks – short sharp movements using the arms, kicking your bum

– High Knees – again, short sharp movements using the arms, keep your torso strong

– Side steps – strong movements keeping the arms straight out in front of you

Side Step cross over – strong movements to the side, crossing the legs over, keeping the arms straight out in front

Calf muscle walk – so you roll from the ball of the foot to the toe, life the leg high and repeat (if you are unsure give us a call and we will explain!)

Straight leg flick run – no knee bend, landing on the ball of the foot

Start on deep out breath to give you power

** These drills would be performed 2-4 times each at 70% pace to improve muscular reaction time, and neuromuscular response time.

Then the main session would include pyramids, pure sprints, intervals and fartleks. We would also recommend specific strength training, core stability and stretching – to find out what would suit you best contact us.
