Well Done to all Team Energised who completed the 7.5km & Half Marathon this weekend – amazing effort and a fantastic weekend!
Where to start really…..we set off for Bristol airport Friday afternoon with kit bags packed, energy gels ready and a slight nervous apprehension for the Team, as for some it was their first race. A short flight with Easyjet took us to the city, and a quick taxi ride to the HEM race hotel.
Slightly amusing room designs for some of the people sharing, including a glass see through shower in the middle of the room! Only in Amsterdam could this happen… and a great way to get to know each other! Following settling into our hotel we headed into Amsterdam to meet Dee’s sister Monica, who took us to a wonderful local restuarant, where we all proceeded to eat Steak and Chips – yes this is correct, Team Energised had chips with their coach – not that I advocate this (of course!) but everything in moderation is fine…! And it was delicious….
Following a wonderful sleep we headed back into Amsterdam the following morning to walk around the city – visit the flower markets, register for the race, enjoy a canal trip up the river, walk around the red light district and generally relax. We also enjoyed several meals, and seemed to pass quite a fe delicious chocolate shops – of course, again, everything in moderation and we were running the next day!!
Amsterdam is a vibrant, fun city – if slightly crazy with so many bikes, trams, horses, carts, shops, flowers and extra tall people – we fitted in well!
Following our day as tourists we went to Monica’s home to watch Strictly Come Dancing – strange this may seem but due to Head Coach working with some of the couples it was essential viewing, and allowed everyone to rest thier feet before the race the next morning….. I am pleased to say that the EP couples of Camilla & Tom, and Ian & Jodie are performing well and definately still in the competition! More on that in the next Blog…
So early to bed, although a little too much sugar for some people meant they were not so early to bed!
The following morning displayed perfect running conditions – cool with a light breeze…. first to go were Debbie, Dee & Pippa (and Philip & Eric!) for the 7.5km, followed by Joss and Kim for the Half Marathon. Everyone completed their races in really good times. I have to say I am immensely proud of each individual for achieving their goals – and you should all be very proud and pleased with yourselves. It is a pleasure working with you all – Well Done, Well Done!
So straight from the race, into a Taxi and onto the plane home – I hope the people next to us didn’t mind the slight running smell…… once landed everyone has texted to say they are home, safe and well.
So all that leaves me to say is Well Done and Thank you Team Energised for making it another really successful, fun and happy trip. Well Done to the runners, Dee, Joss, Pippa, Debbie, Philip & Eric (2) and thank you to the supporters, Karen, Dave, Eric (1), Monica, & Shirley – all part of Team Energised -it was a pleasure.
