Boot camp on the downs … something to crow about!

I have been sent this Blog from the lovely Felicity about the Bootcamp we ran in May – Felicity you are a true star! You entertained us all with your stories and awareness about the birds on the Downs so thank you! So as well as getting really fit on Bootcamp and finding new ways of training, you will make great friends and have a good laugh a lot…

If you want to be as happy as a lark, as free as a bird, and as proud as a peacock join in with Boot camp on the downs.

You will not be as silly as a goose, as naked as a jaybird or as plump as a partridge.

And you will have something to crow about.

You don’t have to be a spring chicken and it doesn’t matter if you are as bald as a coot.

Just flock together like birds of a feather.

Remember to get up early with the birds for the early morning session. No need to bring your I pod. You will have music all around you. Keep your ears open while you are running and you may hear a charm of chaffinches or a bellowing of bullfinches, or a nuthatch whistle or a wren sing with gusto or you may even hear the croak of a raven ‘kronk, kronk’ as it flies majestically over the gorge.

Keep your eyes open while doing your crunches and leg raises and enjoy a visual display, of seagulls drifting, buzzards soaring, jackdaws and crows circling and squawking. You may be lucky enough to see one of the seven Peregrine falcons circling the skies or swooping on an unfortunate pigeon, (the pair that were on the nest in May, had five chicks that successfully fledged later in June.)

Keep your pecker up, especially if it rains. Whether the weather be cold, or whether the weather be hot. We’ll weather the weather whatever the weather, whether we like it or not!

Be like the wise old owl and listen to Kim (this is a boot camp!).

The wise old owl sat in an oak. The more he heard, the less he spoke. The less he spoke, the more he heard. Wasn’t that a wise old bird!

And as sure as eggs are eggs, you will soon be as fit as a fffffffff…finch! Like me! Chaffinch. (no I am not a cuckoo!)

If you would like to be part of the next Bootcamp visit the Events page – 5 days of Hardcore Training starts Monday 11th August @ 6.30pm….- or email to see if there are any spaces left!
