Olympic Torch Thoughts from EP Coach Sarah

With the Olympic Torch Relay underway, what a great opportunity to get involved and get excited about the Games! As well as passing EP HQ on Wednesday morning, it also passed through the outskirts of town in Longwell Green on Tuesday – only minutes from my house, and I was lucky enough to be part of the celebrations…

The streets were absolutely packed. People came in their hundreds to share the excitement and witness history in the making – and what fantastic weather to welcome the parade. As I stood there with family and friends (and many other people I didn’t know!) I felt a real sense of unity. As we eagerly awaited the arrival of the Torchbearer I thought to myself, what a wonderful event to bring local communities together. And there he was…

A local man carrying the torch with such pride. I didn’t know his name and I didn’t know his background, but I do know that he had the BIGGEST smile on his face and the support was amazing. Each and every Torchbearer was chosen because of their inspirational story, and it was clear to see this man felt very proud to be chosen – this brilliant pic we managed to snap says it all, go him!

With 8,000 Torchbearers coming to over 1,000 cities, towns and villages, that’s a lot of inspirational people with their very own journeys of success – everyday people, just like YOU. The Torch is being carried all the way to the Games to light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony – roll on 27th July! Let us know your Torch stories and join us for our Energised Olympic 2 Week Challenge from 30th July – 11th August – more info coming soon!
