Workout and Diet Tips From Female Action Heroes

It is fair to say that men get the majority of the action roles in film. Yet there are many female action heroes who kick ass just as much, if not more. Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson have already been enrolled into the Hollywood action hall of fame, and Alicia Vikander will join it next year when she plays Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider film. In this post we look at how they got into action hero shape, and some diet tips they employed to get them there.

 

Anne Hathaway – Catwoman – The Dark Knight Rises

Anne Hathaway almost broke the internet when pictures of her riding the Batbike were leaked online. Like many actresses taking a lead part in an action franchise many had questioned her ability. One look at the photo confirmed that she was perfect and had prepared well.

In order to get into shape for Catwoman, Hathaway had to change her diet. Fitness Magazine spoke to Jackie Keller, health coach and nutritionist, who worked with Hathaway. He told them that as a vegetarian Hathaway had to increase her protein intake to ensure she built muscle. According to Keller this equaled a cup of protein with every meal made up of legumes or pan-fried tofu. Scarlett Johansson – The Major – Ghost in the Shell

Scarlett Johansson is certainly not an amateur when it comes to the gym. In a recent Q&A session for Ghost in the Shell, Johansson spoke of how her training for the Marvel films, where she plays Black Widow, helped out.

Johansson’s workout regime is well publicised and includes 90-minute circuit workouts. Circuit workouts push the body in a very different way to standard workouts as the body has to adapt quickly to the next exercise. This leads to an intense workout that burns fat and builds muscle. Most gyms will offer a circuit training session and if you want to get into action hero shape then they are the way forward.

 

Alicia Vikander – Lara Croft – Tomb Raider

Alicia Vikander has a tough job. Not only must she fill the shoes of one of the gaming industry’s most iconic characters, she is also taking over a role made famous on screen by Angelina Jolie. Nutrition site Foods 4 Better Health revealed that Vikander trained in ballet dancing during her youth, which they predict will be able to help her during her role as the legendary adventurer. The Tomb Raider franchise is one of video games most enduring games. In 2013 the game was successfully rebooted and was nominated for numerous awards. The game has been adapted for film twice, with Angelina Jolie starring in the lead role, and has reached gaming platform Slingo who have their own official Tomb Raider slot game.

 

The latest images from the film show that Alicia Vikander’s workout and diet regime is clearly working out. The director spoke to GQ and noted the actress’s dedication to the action scenes. The film is due out next year. Read the GQ article here
